Sending away for a DVD promotion special gift: Mushishi

(tags anime, DVD region 2, purchase, gift, figure)

I collected all 5 DVD boxes of Mushishi (「蟲師」) and I finally sent the special coupon this week, just under the deadline. Some DVD releases have the promotion where each box has a sticker or paper with the box's number. You then cut out and attach these strips of paper to the last box's coupon and send that in.

But most promotions are not free, but pretty much less than 2000 yen. Usually you have to send money in the form of a Japanese postal money order. These money orders are only available during Japan Post banking hours, which means 9:00 to 16:00 weekdays. It is a pain to get them because of my 9-to-5 "plus service zangyou (overtime without pay)" work schedule. Usually I line up the other stuff that requires going to the post office (like postal money orders for magazine offers for telephone cards, character goods, etc) and go during my lunch break.

In any case, the Mushishi promotion requires about 800 yen. Other than that, it's a piece of cake, just write down your Japanese mailing address, insert coupon and money into envelope, address the envelope and send it off with a 80 yen stamp. If it's in the post box, it will get today's stamp.

Collect all five DVD sets and send in the postcard for a limited edition gift.

Speaking of Mushishi, I was on special alert looking for the last DVD release, Mushishi -Mushi Ourai- (「蟲師 -蟲往来-」). This is the sixth box. There are only 8000 units for the whole Japan, and I didn't make a preorder, I figured it might be a little hard to come by. But I was able to get it a day before (see picture below, "breaking street date" Sofmap FTW again).

Jeez the box is big. And no, it's not a case for the rest of the DVDs, unlike most big box pack-ins.
