Maison Ikkoku comeback

This doesn't seem to be new news, but its new to me. Maison Ikkoku (めそん一刻), my favorite  manga and anime from the 80s by Rumiko Takahashi (高橋留美子), will be remaked into a live-action TV series this 2007 spring, with tall model-actress Misaki Ito (伊東美咲) headlining.

I only learned about this at the bookstore when trying to find the (sold-out!) Kimikiss manga (キミキス). The announcement seemed to be late last year, though. As this blog shows, Maison Ikkoku explores the fun from the mixing "public" and "private" space. In fact, the 80s style public phone used as a convenient plot device brings the main characters together. Unfortunately that will not translate well to our 2000s mobile phone life, but perhaps there will be some interesting turns.
