But without the missile fratricide: Project Sylpheed

(tags game, Xbox 360, Project Sylpheed, shmup)

I am surprised but I really enjoyed playing Project Sylpheed. It makes me feel good flying in space. I completed it two more times. In game clock says I played for 11 hours, but I kept dying on some missions and auto-save didn't pick those up. I think the epiphany came when I figure out not to rely on my lock-on missiles for everything. Duh, right?

The part I enjoyed the most was unlocking all of the weapons. I saved up the 350_000 credits for one of the ultimate ones. A single mission give you about 8_000 creds, so it's gotta be good. :-) Imagine Raystorm's 12 lock homing laser, but with 60 locks and almost instantaneous lock-on time. Not only that, the beams are purple. Sweet. Except it doesn't do much damage but that's what your alt 2 and 3 weapons are for, right?

Other similar all-axis space action games that I've played are Descent (PC), Colony Wars (PS1), and Wing Commander (PC), and Star Raiders (Atari 2600 with keypad!) so I'm not really that experienced in this genre.

I checked online for any interesting PSy DLC and it seems there's a free "challenge" mission pack weighing 500 MB. Definately I'm going to try it. I'm also going to research the Achievement Points. I got 510 out of 1000 without much hassle. Also I collected the official wallpapers, nice.
