StarCraft beating

(tags game, real-time strategy, failure)

I'm playing single-player campaign StarCraft. I'm about 30% done, playing the Terran missions. All but the last Terran missions have given me no trouble. I basically try not to read the strategy guide before the mission, but if I fail, I go to the guide.

I haven't failed until now.

This last Terran mission, "Hammerfall", is something else though. It's hard. My StarCraft enthuiasm seems sapped now. Well I only failed two times but it takes a hour to get a result. Ugh.

StarCraft 2 itc (in this chat)

(tags game, real-time strategy, Windows, announcement)

I made the mistake of spending my weekend online on #insertcredit. I had no idea that Saturday, 14:00 Japan Standard time would be so lively.

StarCraft 2.

Announced at a Korean game tournament, but live blogged at IGN and NeoGAF and of course #insertcredit.

As a gamer who has only played WarCraft II, I don't understand what is going on in those in-game videos. Still it seems exciting. "Nuclear launch detected" "GG"

I did say I wanted to play StarCraft, and I even went as far as to put it in my virtual shopping basket at GDEX game online store yesterday. But after reading the Wikipedia page on it, I decided that I'm not really fond of micro and macro mangaging and detail level managing at all. Also the 800 by 600 limitation is annoying.

Will StarCraft 2 be a reason to upgrade my computer? It would have to ride on Unreal Tournament 3.

Still looking for Starcraft, but coming up empty-handed

(tags game, import, real-time strategy)

Eventually I'll play this game because I feel like it's a necessary part of gaming history (just not necessary enough to get it RIGHT NOW). Aso Bit City didn't have a copy even though they had an entire aisle of foreign PC games, the biggest assortment I've seen in Akihabara (but that's not saying much). As always Messe Sanoh Chaos had a copy on the third time I canvassed the shop in two days... Yup, the Battle Chest edition for 6000 yen.

No. Way.

In plain English: I didn't buy it.

I think I just want to play it for 1000 yen or less. (Yes the online store has it for USD 9.99 and ships to Japan but but...)

I don't understand, Starcraft is big in South Korea. Because Japan is close, you'd think they'd get some copies? But the Japanese version is nowhere to be found.

Update: maybe this page has the reasons why Japan doesn't "get" Starcraft.

Like an RTS should

(tags game, Final Fantasy, Dual Screen, real-time strategy)

The extra missions unlocked before the endgame are kicking my ass. I think they finally turned on the AI on the enemy side. I am having flashbacks of Homeworld frustration.

That is all.
